The voice of your course

Student Reps are individuals elected by students in a specific course to represent them and their interests, specifically when communicating with course/programme leadership, university senior leadership team, and within the SU.

The main roles of student reps are to be a welcoming and approachable person for peers to reach out to, regularly meet with course leadership to pass on student views on the course (both positive and constructive), and to attend termly Student Rep Group (SRG) meetings with all student reps and the university’s senior leadership team for updates and the ability to raise wider non-course specific issues.

Student Reps also have an important role to play in running the SU, specifically in designing policy positions for us to take on academic affairs.

Your Student Rep team

Currently there are 2 spaces for students reps in each year group of each course. This means that for a standard 3 year undergraduate course there will be a team of up to 6 Student Reps that work to represent their peers.

Student Reps are collaboratively run by the SU and the University, with the SU running aspects of the democratic student voice, and the University keeping academics keenly involved and providing administrative support.

The SU provides training and support to all student reps at the beginning of the academic year. We also reach out to any new reps who start throughout the year to offer bespoke and personal training when they begin. Reps that need support to complete their duties, or who would like to run a campaign in their role can reach out to the SU for support.
