I believe that there is currently an unacceptably high barrier of entry in relation to students' ability to use the Risograph printer in the Bank Plain space making it a deeply underutilised facility. I understand the universities' desire to acquire one despite the initial investment being high, because it is a unique piece of technology that creates a print that couldn't otherwise be created. However, what use is this if very few people are ever able to access it, to use it to experiment and create, to elevate their projects the same way all students do in every other creative studio?  

I know from personal experience and from engaging with students from a variety of other courses that the process of trying to book an induction or use this printer is incredibly difficult and currently can only be done under very specific circumstances that some uni staff also find difficult to work around. I don't think it's acceptable to have facilities so gatekept at the institution we pay to attend, and so I believe that the management around this area needs to change to be more accessible to students. I would appreciate any and all help that the union can provide in strengthening this message.
