Mature Students
The current Mature Students Officer is Janet, a Year 2 Fine Art student!
The Mature Students Officer at NUASU works with the university and other student officers to represent, support and campaign on behalf of mature students at Norwich University. The University and city alike have so much to offer mature students, but it can be sometimes hard to find the right information and find facilities that can support you.
Norwich Arts SU defines a mature student as anyone who started their undergraduate degree after the age of 21 or their masters after the age of 25, as per Office for Students guidelines.

Our Part Time Officers are elected annually in the spring term, with by elections for vacant roles taking place in October. If you think you would make a great Mature Students Officer, nominate yourself when nominations open!
Where to get support
Students' Union
You can pop in to the SU Lounge, located in the basement of St Andrews House during normal office hours for a confidential chat. There is an accessible lift down to the basement level through the brown doors to the left of St Andrews House main entrance.
Student Support
Student support offer advice, guidance and support in the following areas:
- Mental Health & Wellbeing
- Accommodation
- Student Finance, money management & budgeting
- Disability/long term physical or mental health conditions and specific learning differences, such as dyslexia
You can contact Student Support via OurNorwichUni or during their drop in hours Monday - Friday (during term time), 12:30-3:30pm to speak with a member of the team, with extended opening on Wednesdays 10.30-3.30pm.
The drop in is located in St Georges, the accessible entrance to this building is located around the corner to the right of the main door, next to the building arch.

Academic support
Academic Support works closely with the course teams and other areas of the Academic Registry to offer guidance on how our regulations can support you.
They can help with:
- Claiming extenuating circumstances
- Applying for intermission, which means taking an approved break from your studies
- Making an appeal or a complaint

- First Bus Travel – bus routes and timetables around Norfolk and Suffolk. Buying your tickets via the mobile app will save you money!
Activism and Campaigns
Home from Home Kitchen
Mature students can make full use of our brand-new commuter kitchen available as long as the building is open, located in St Andrews House. You can use the space to make a drink, warm up food or store your bags. The kitchen hosts lockers, a kettle, microwave, toaster, and a sink for washing utensils/kitchenware. We hope all students are able to make full use of this space and the SU lounge between lectures and socialise in the SU lounge!
Events and Community
Mature students have brought to the attention of the Union that there is a gap in regards to community. The Students' Union is looking to invest more time into organising Mature and Postgrad social events, such as the MA Celebration and Mature Students Coffee and Cake. Have an event idea? Get in touch.
Travel Subsidy Voucher and Discounted Bus Travel
Norwich University work with First Bus to offer discounted bus travel to students and additional subsidies for travel, both of which are available to Mature Students. You can read more about this on the Student Support VLE
